The FRP++ Workshop 2025 was held from May 21st to 23rd at the Department of Structures for Engineering and Architecture, University of Naples Federico II (UNINA). The event brought together students, academics, and industry professionals for a dynamic mix of technical discussions, insightful lectures, hands-on experiences, and social activities.
The workshop kicked off with presentations from the 18 participating MSc students, who pitched the progress of their dissertations. Each student had 8 minutes to showcase their research, followed by a 6-minute Q&A session with the audience. The day also included a guided tour of the department’s state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, giving participants a close-up view of ongoing research and experimental setups.
The second day began with two distinguished keynote lectures. Prof. Honorary Thomas Keller from EPFL opened with a talk titled “Composites in Civil Engineering and Architecture”, offering a comprehensive overview of composite applications in the built environment. He was followed by Dr. Sinan Boztepe from Boeing Poland, who delivered an engaging lecture on “Composite Aerostructures for Sustainable Aviation”.
In the afternoon, attendees participated in a technical site visit to the “Tangenziale di Napoli” viaduct, gaining practical insights into real-world applications of structural engineering. The day concluded with a relaxing visit to Naples’ historic city center and a lively social dinner, where participants bonded over a variety of traditional Neapolitan pizzas.
On the final day, Dr. Elisabete Teixeira led a soft skills seminar titled “Communication is Not Just Talking”, emphasizing the importance of effective interpersonal and professional communication. This was followed by a Job Fair, providing students with the opportunity to connect with potential employers and explore career paths. The workshop concluded with a wrap-up session and closing ceremony celebrating the success of the event.
Many participants extended their stay in Naples to explore the city’s cultural treasures—and to celebrate SSC Napoli’s fourth Scudetto, adding a touch of local festivity to the academic event.
